General
Campaign Insights, a step in the campaign workflow, allows you to visually analyze campaign performance and traffic distribution by overlaying the metrics on a campaign map, just like the Concept Plan and Campaign Logic (Programmatic / Social) steps.
This provides you with automated alerts and notifications regarding campaign metrics and performance in various places in the campaign logic. It also allows you to further investigate a card’s internal behavior or results by double-clicking the card.
Accessing Campaign Insights
- Within the campaign's home page, click the Campaign Insights button
located in the Campaign Header.
Understanding Campaign Insights
Campaign Insights has the following filters:
-
Date
- By default, Flight Control shows impressions distribution over the Campaign logic for the last 7 days.
- Modify the date range of the insights data using the Dates field in the toolbar.
-
Metrics
- Use the Metrics dropdown to choose from a predefined list of metric presets or create custom ones.
- For creating or managing custom metric presets, click the Metric dropdown and select Manage Presets. See the Creating & Managing Metric Presets section for detailed instructions.
- Selected metric presets and their totals display above the campaign map.
- If your account has a media performance data source configured with a media partner, select External Data as the metrics selection to see the external data received from your partner. This will show metrics such as External Cost, External CPM/CPC, External Conversions, and External Conversion Rate, External ROAS, and External Sales.
- Add Filter: Allows you to filter based on dimensions, including DSP, Placement, Creative, and campaign-related parameters.
-
Bulk Optimization Data Exporting (for programmatic campaigns using optimization cards): Click the export icon (
) to export all optimization card data to an Excel file.
The connector's color is the same as the chosen metric "totals card," indicating the metric is overlaid on the campaign logic.
- When you click on a metric "totals card" the connectors of the campaign logic switch their color to match the selected metric color. The thickness of the connectors adjusts itself to the metric values.
- Hover over a card or outputs to reveal all metrics information associated with it.
- When traffic is spotted going from a connector directly to the fallback creative card, the connector spotted directing the traffic is connected to an icon presenting data that went to the fallback creative.
- The fallback creative card has an input connector summarizing all traffic transferred to it from the entire campaign logic.
Viewing Insights across multiple Campaign Versions
- The date range defaults to the last 7 days.
- If you select a date range that crosses between several campaign versions, the data will still be shown, but any traffic that is passing between a card that exists on the current version to a card that doesn't exist on the current version will be presented as an dotted line (see example below).
- Note: The Metric "Totals" Card and the Connector coming out of the campaign card will reflect all the traffic, and the totals will be correct.
Creating & Managing Metric Presets
In Flight Control, all campaigns have "default" metric presets accessible in the Metrics selector. Although these presets cannot be edited or removed, you can use the Manage Presets feature to create or update custom presets. To create new metric presets:
- Select the Metrics filter and opt for Manage Presets. This action will open the Manage Metrics Preset window.
-
New: Select "New" to create a new preset.
- Clicking this drop-down will reveal all previously created custom presets. Modify a preset or use the trashcan icon to delete it.
- Set Name: Enter a name for the preset.
-
Metrics: Select the desired metrics.
- Select the desired metrics (availability depends on the campaign type; for instance, video metrics are exclusive to video campaigns).
- Choose up to eight metrics.
- Select between Clinch calculated metrics, including custom conversions, or external metrics (provided through media performance data sources).
- Add: This saves the custom metric preset, making it accessible in the Metrics selector.
Card Metrics
Double-clicking a card within the Insights step opens its Metrics pane to show the metric/traffic specific to that card. This allows you to gain more granular insights into the traffic attributes that pass through the card and its outputs, and better understand and troubleshoot the card's logic.
The metrics listed for selection are the metric presets available in your campaign. Selecting a metric in the Metrics pane will automatically select it in the campaign map and vice versa.
By default, the "date" dimension is preselected, and you can add additional dimensions, such as "card output ID" to see how traffic or data flows through each card output.
Note: Card metrics don't apply to campaign, creative, and fallback creative cards.
The Metrics pane's functionality is nearly identical to an account's Metrics page excluding some actions. For more information, see Metrics.
The Dashboard View
You can utilize Flight Control dashboards within the Insights step by clicking the meter icon (). This opens the Dashboard View pane, which displays the campaign's "main dashboard" using the same date range, time zone, and filters selected in the campaign map.
The Dashboard View pane's functionality is nearly identical to an account's Dashboard page; however, it focuses on campaign traffic only.
Similar to account-level dashboards, you can also manage and customize the campaign-level dashboard views.
