General
You can create an Offline Event Data Source in Flight Control to integrate with third-party offline event vendors for the ingestion and attribution of offline event data. Examples of offline event data attribution include connecting an impression/click to an in-store purchase, foot traffic near a store location, and more.
This data source type is usable within your Flight Control account's Attributions Setup to associate impressions/clicks with offline event data, thereby identifying offline conversions. Attribution data is usable in Flight Control dashboards, the Metrics page, and campaign optimization cards.
For more information on Clinch data sources, see Data Source Table.
Create an Offline Event Data Source
Step 1: Create a Data Source Skeleton in Flight Control
- Navigate to Account > Data Sources.
- Select Create > Offline Event.
- Enter a name for your data source.
- Select a partner.
- Currently, LiveRamp is the only available offline event partner.
- Select a product type for the data source.
- Select Add.
- Copy the generated folder path and give it to your partner (LiveRamp).
- Select Ok.
Step 2: Enable Clinch Integration in the Partner's Platform
This integration step is partner-specific. Refer to the article(s) below on how to integrate with your selected partner:
Step 3: Confirm Receipt of Event Files
After you integrate Clinch with your selected partner's platform, Clinch confirms that incoming event data files exist and are being received. (They won't be processed until the data is mapped.)
Step 4: Configure Attribution for Your Offline Events Data Source
Event files only provide data regarding offline engagement (store visits, nearby foot traffic, etc.), not attribution for that offline engagement (linking it to an impression or click). Therefore, you need to set up attribution within Flight Control before offline event files are processed to link ad viewers' engagement with offline event data.
To set up attribution for your data source:
- Navigate to Account > Attribution Setup.
- Select Add Attribution.
Clinch recommends the following best-practice configuration for offline event attribution:
- Have a dedicated attribution setup for offline conversions.
- Consider naming the attribution set-up specifically for offline events (example: "Offline Conversions.")
- Choose only a single event type, even if the data source only provides a single event type.
- Select all ad engagement options: Impressions, Clicks, and Engagement.
- Set a 30-day lookback window.
- Select Same Person for the Attribution Relation.
- Select an Unlimited frequency.
- Update all other account attribution setups to ensure that they exclude events coming from your newly-created offline event data source.
Step 5: Map Partner Names/Values with Flight Control Conventions
Certain names and values received in partner data may not have an exact 1:1 match with Flight Control’s naming conventions. Therefore, it's necessary to manually align the received partner data with the parameters in Flight Control. To perform this mapping:
- Navigate to Library > Data Sources.
- Hover over your offline event data source and select Mapping.
- The Events Configuration pane will be displayed.
- Click Add Event.
-
Optional. If needed, configure parameters for the Offline Purchase event type. (Ensure the Event Timestamp parameter is still mapped.)
- If you're using the subtype event parameter: Enter a subtype value.
- Optional. Click Advanced Mapping Settings to configure a rule that modifies the parameter's incoming offline events data, such as changing capitalization, replacing values, using Regex, and more. (These settings are for advanced use cases.)
- Optional. Map additional event parameters as needed.
- Select Submit.
Step 6: Confirm Data is Processed
Offline event data processing runs overnight, so you can expect incoming events to appear in the data source table by the next day. For more granular statistics about the incoming events:
- Navigate to Account > Data Sources.
- Hover over your offline event data source and select Insights Data.
You can also utilize Clinch dashboards and the Metrics page (located in the Analytics section) to confirm that conversions are being attributed using your newly created offline events attribution signal.
