General
Flight Control allows advertisers to attribute events to ad engagements from data sources (website pixels, in-app events, offline events, and more), thereby identifying user conversions.
After setting up one or more custom attribution configurations and adding them to a campaign, Flight Control will start recording conversion metrics like click-through conversions (CTCs), view-through conversions (VTCs), and engagement-through conversions (ETCs).
Conversion metrics (CTC, VTC, ETC, and Custom Conversions) can be viewed in the following Flight Control UI areas:
Additionally, you can choose to view or export conversion data for each custom attribution setup configured in your account.
Note:
- Conversion is the sum of all conversions in the account (all types). Flight Control attributes conversions to the date of the conversion, not the day that the user viewed or clicked the ad.
- Custom conversion is the sum of conversions recorded by a specific custom conversion setup.
Prerequisites
- Enable User Profiling is enabled for your account.
- Campaign attribution/conversions can't be tracked or reported retroactively without User Profiling enabled.
- To confirm user profiling is enabled for your account, navigate to Account > Settings > Features Settings > User Identity & Profiling.
- To enable this feature, please contact your Clinch Customer Success representative.
- Have a data source created in your account.
Create an Attribution Setup
Flight Control attribution requires you to create attribution logic that links events from data sources with ad-viewer engagement. To create an attribution setup:
- Navigate to Account > Attributions Setup.
- Select Add Attribution.
- Enter a name for your attribution setup.
- Optional. Enter a description for your attribution setup.
- Select one or more ad-serving events that ad viewers must engage in to be considered for this attribution setup:
- Clicks
- Engagement
- Impressions
- Note: Flight Control prioritizes clicks over engagements and engagements over impressions.
- Set a lookback window.
- Lookback windows determine how far back in time an ad-serving event is eligible for attribution.
- The default lookback is 30 days, with 60 days being the maximum.
- Select an attribution relation:
-
Same Person
- Attribution is only recorded when a user profile both engages with an ad and performs a triggering event.
- The "user profile" is usually a person-level profile, but if the impression is only identified on a household level, then it will be a household profile.
-
Household
- Attribution can occur for any individual in a household. This is usually used for showing ads on CTV campaigns and recording conversions through secondary device attribution, where the secondary device can belong to any person in the household.
- This is a less strict attribution selection relative to Same Person.
-
Same Person
- Select a frequency to define how many times your attribution set-up can attribute conversions to a single user:
-
Unlimited
- Preferred for repeatable user events like online/offline purchases, as every purchase is potentially counted/attributed. Selecting this option allows one impression/click to attribute multiple conversions.
-
Per Session
- Preferred for attribution events such as landing page visits.
-
Once
- Preferred for unrepeatable events for which you don't want to double-count users (example: user registration).
-
Per Day
- Preferred for daily user events, where you don't want to double-count a user for attribution within a single day.
-
Unlimited
- Select one or more data sources to use for attribution.
- For more information on creating data sources, see Data Sources Table.
- Select one or more event types to track for the chosen data source(s).
- Optional. Establish one or more conditions for your triggering event.
- Select Submit.
Utilize an Attribution Setup in a Campaign
After creating an attribution setup, you can use it within your campaign(s) for the following purposes:
- To measure/track conversion attributions.
- Enable Campaign Attributions in the Campaign Services section on the Campaign Home Page.
- Select all, one, or multiple custom attribution setups to use in the campaign. Refer to the hyperlinks provided above for more information.
- As a key performance indicator (KPI) in the Optimization card.
- Select to optimize by either Conversion or Click Through Conversions.
- Select all, one, or multiple custom attribution setups from the list. For more information, see Optimization Card.
Reporting
Access conversion attribution data across Flight Control's analytics suite:
-
Campaign Insights:
- Use Manage Presets to create custom metric presets integrating one or multiple custom attribution setups.
- Note that Manage Presets will only display the custom attribution setups configured for the Account. Refer to the Campaign Insights article for more details.
-
Dashboard, Metrics Page, and My Reports:
- In the Metrics drop-down, search for CTC, VTC, ETC, or Custom Conversions.
- You can select one or multiple custom attribution setups.
- Click the provided hyperlinks above to access more information.
Table Columns
The following Attribution Setup table columns exist:
| Column | Description |
| Priority |
Indicates the sequential order in which account attribution setups are evaluated to calculate an attribution for a conversion event. Following this process, a view-through conversion (VTC), click-through conversion (CTC), or engagement-through conversion (ETC) is generated based on the calculated attribution. To adjust the priority, reposition the attribution signal by dragging and dropping it to your desired position. Note: If multiple attribution signals apply to a user, only the highest-priority attribution signal is considered. |
| ID | Displays the unique identifier of the attribution setup. |
| Name | Displays the name of the attribution setup. |
| Ad-Serving Events | Displays the type of ad events used to trigger the attribution setup. The potential values are "click," "impression," and/or "engagement." |
| Properties | Displays configuration details for the attribution setup, such as its lookback window and frequency designation. |
| Triggering Events |
Displays the conversion events that activate the attribution setup, such as:
|
| Specifically Used In |
Displays campaigns where the attribution setup is explicitly used. Note: This doesn't include campaigns that opt to use all available account attribution setups. |
| Statistics |
Displays analytics data such as:
|
Actions
Click Actions to use one of the following options:
| Action | Description |
| Delete | Deletes the selected attribution setups from your account. |
| Export to Excel | Lets you export the content of selected attribution setups to an Excel file. When no attribution setups are selected, this action exports all account attribution setups. |
