General
You can add subtitles/closed captions to a video template using a subtitle dynamic parameter and one or more SRT files. You can upload SRT files from your local device, select them from your account's Assets Library, or use them from a product or location feed when set as a dynamic parameter source.
Note: This feature is currently supported only for YouTube campaigns.
Important: Ensure that the duration of SRT files matches the duration of the video composition.
User Permissions
- You need the Creative Templates user permission to create or edit templates.
Prerequisites
- Have one or more SRT files saved on your device, stored in the Assets Library, or accessible through public file-hosting URLs.
- If you're using multiple SRT files/languages, have a product or location feed containing two columns: one for BCP 47 language codes and another for corresponding SRT file URLs.
BCP 47 Language Code Examples
- en → English (generic)
- en-US → English as used in the United States
- en-GB → English as used in Great Britain
- fr-CA → French as used in Canada
- es-419 → Spanish as spoken in Latin America
- zh-Hans → Chinese in Simplified script
- zh-Hant-TW → Traditional Chinese as used in Taiwan
- de-CH-1996 → German as spoken in Switzerland with the 1996 spelling reform
Adding Subtitles to a Video Creative Template
To add subtitles to a video creative template:
- Go to your template's Build step.
- Add a Text layer for captioning.
- Note: No specific styling or positioning is required, as this text layer won't appear in the ad.
- Go to your template's Map step.
- Add a Subtitles dynamic parameter to the template.
- Note: Templates can only have one Subtitles dynamic parameter.
- Map the Subtitles dynamic parameter to the Text layer.
- Follow steps below according to the number of SRT files/languages you're using:

One language
- Drag and drop a file into the dynamic parameter box, or choose an SRT file from your account's Assets Library.
- To use a language other than English, click the Subtitles dynamic parameter's globe icon (
) and select your desired language.
- Drag and drop a file into the dynamic parameter box, or choose an SRT file from your account's Assets Library.

Multiple feed-sourced languages

- Select the feed column that contains SRT file URLs as the dynamic source for the parameter.
- Click the parameter's globe icon (
).
- Click the product, content, or location icon, depending on your feed type, and then choose the feed column that contains the language codes.

One language
- Click Save.
The video template now has subtitles, which you can see in the template's preview.
Previewing Subtitles
To confirm the subtitle language, open the Template Preview pane and click the vertical ellipsis of the video preview. From there, you can also enable or disable preview captioning by clicking Captions.
Depending on your feed type, you can switch between supported languages within the Products, Locations, or Content dropdown of the extended Template Preview drawer.
